Playing on the #1 team in the league will pep up anybody's interest level. I doubt the Canucks are worried about that.
As for playoff performance, it's a fool's errand to judge players on early exits. A guy does poorly in a 7-game series? Maybe he was playing through injuries. Maybe his linemates were, and that affected his performance. Maybe he was just having a few down games at the wrong time. Maybe the other team had the right matchup to contain him, as opposed to the regular season when you face a different opponent every night. Or maybe he's just not cut out for playoff hockey. I think fans are much too quick to jump to that conclusion.
Now back to my point: The Canucks want to stack their best forwards on the #1 line. That leaves them without a good option for 2C. Who on the trade market was going to be better in that role than Lindholm? I'm not seeing anybody. They paid a big price, but they got the player that was best for the job.
