I do agree with your characterization that the Flames made a PR blunder, that is exactly how I would characterize it. A mistake to share information that was unnecessary, particularly when the allegations were known. The other teams did it right.
Maybe people would stop criticizing the Flames if people would stop defending their statement. Or maybe the Flames should issue a short apology and put it to bed.

I’m not defending the Flames statement at all, more criticizing the response I’ve seen online from people whose first and only comment is to jump down the Flames throat.
I think the Kylington situation is evidence the organization takes mental health very seriously. While their statement was stupid, I do think I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt based on their prior history. They can still do the right thing and I think that is a whole lot more important than what they said in a statement.
