I don’t mean to take away from the victim in this case at all. Hopefully because of how high profile this case is the victim will get criminal justice, and already got compensation for the wrongdoing.
But what really gets me upset is the extent of this stuff that’s going on still, right now, last weekend, next weekend, particularly in junior hockey, at all levels of competitive hockey. Like imagine how many situations like this have happened and are happening have been dismissed that nobody hears about. Or have not been reported at all. The Junior B mucks from mucksville. It’s even worse at lower level competitive in my opinion.
Hundreds of victims that are silenced and suffering. Thousands. Tens of thousands over the years? Who the hell knows. And it just seems so daunting to change hockey culture.
I will be thinking of these victims as well as we process this case and hopefully set a new standard. But I’m not holding my breath.
