Lindholm is the team's number one center and they've always struggled getting that top line center. Glad they didn't sign him myself, but I get the attempt.
Neither of those suggests the team is going to walk the two players to free agency and have them leave for nothing because they don't understand the standings.

I think people are more so concerned that the team understands it needs to truly rebuild (at least I am), not just that they avoid walking guys to UFA.
And had they signed those two guys, the direction would have been firmly cemented as is. Even a few weeks ago there was the interview where Conroy said they realize they won't get truly elite draft picks because they don't want to bottom out.
There is still a lot to be skeptical about with this organization and how it does things. We'll have to wait and see what reality looks like after the deadline.
