The Lions are well run at this point, losing Johnson is gonna hurt but they will likely slide in another offensive assistant who is well versed in their existing scheme so it won't be a huge drop off. But there's a scenario where they are a better team overall next year than this year, but the various luck components (injury luck, fumble luck, one score game luck) just don't go their way next year and they are a 9-8 wild card contender. Solving the Goff dilemma is going to be very important, there's a number where having Goff as your starter is palatable, even a number where you like having him as QB, but will he take that? Or will he want to cash in because in the QB desperate world we live in there is absolutely someone who will pay him close to $50 million per, maybe even more.
