Flames should be capitalizing on Markstrom now that a) there appears to be market demand that could be leveraged, b) the inconsistent nature of goalies, and so they’d likely be selling high, c) to (depending on the trade) get some cap relief, and d) clear up the confusion and problem they have with too many goalies. Wolf should be brought up as permanent back-up and introduced to more NHL hockey- he’s accomplished everything he can at the AHL level and is ready, and Vladar can shoulder the load.
Further, extra losses with theoretically worse goaltending doesn’t hurt the upcoming draft positioning (don’t hate me for speaking strategic truths).
I know publicly they’re positioning with other NHL execs that “the price is super high”, but- also- don’t be too greedy. Just cash in nicely now.
