I don't like getting too serious about sports-related things because it takes fun out of forum chatter. In calgary you hear Oliver discuss coming back to practice and talking about not being sure he would "be here" to see another practice and how great it is to have him back with his old teammates. Feel good story around an honest struggle over 20 months away from the game.
In edmonton on the same day you have a guy with a questionable reputation recently ejected by his team for things that can't be made public. Oilers don't check in on the details to see whether it's even a good idea to sign him, sign him anyways. In the presser they collaborate to spin this as best they can.
So their three-celled PR brain trust comes up with the brilliant idea of dressing this up as a "mental health" issue. They even have the audacity to have him rattle off a little speech about mental health. Corey talks about pride in his work done over 8 weeks. Trying to sell the public that in 8 weeks where he never officially entered the assistance program (or any word on extensive rehabilitation) he supposedly addressed alcoholism and the intimidating behaviour he was exhibiting on staff member/s in Chicago...
On the same day as Kylington hitting another milestone in an honest journey to recovery that's well documented, we have the Oilers propaganda pushers cheapening the meaning of those words, reducing it to a buzzword they've added to their arsenal to try and downplay their latest questionable move.
I don't know. Is the shtick too far, or did the Oilers go to far?
I can live with stang thinking I'm the jerk for bluntly pointing it out. But the fact remains that that looks terrible on them.
I know it would be really hard for an Oiler fan to take the L on anything when it's coming from rival fans because the natural inclination is to push back. But honestly... this isn't the standard heckling or teasing. That might be a new low for the team's media.

I have zero issue with the jokes. This one went a bit too far. What Perry did sucks and is problematic, but it's not even in the same realm as what happened to this girl.
I don't think it's upsetting because it's mocking the Oilers. I think that's mandatory. I think that it lessens what happened to the victim here.
