Yes, that's how I do it. You can go two directions, the model I have has a "cleaning" feature, that is essentially running water directly downward into the bowl. You turn that on when we initially sit, and it immediately draws from the hot water line (which takes a minute to warm up).
It's true other models might have alternate ways of solving this problem, but with an absolute bare-bones setup, running the water for a minute is fine.
