Johansen, Byram, 1st ... sure but it starts to looks underwhelming if it's a 2nd. Taking the extra year of Johansen with $4M attached is worth a 2nd on its own

If this is the highest upside deal on the table, do you take it?
At the beginning of the year the Athletic ran a piece on the best NHL prospects under 23. Byram was 17th and the 4th D-man. It has been more of the same this year with injuries. Also some D ranked below him, Sanderson for example, have likely leap frogged Byram. That said, the skill/talent is there. Put on a team like the Flames with a solid D although lacking a true/high end 1D he could flourish here.
Of course you would need to know how other deals stack up but Byram is a highly attractive player for the Flames and presumably how they want to turn their roster over.
