If you slow it down, it looks more like he punched him in the head (when he was on the ice), and the "crosscheck" to the shoulder was just because he had the stick in both hands.
And the contact to the face when Zary was on his feet was very much a crosscheck. Slow it down, and you can see the left hand doesn't make contact. Both of the guy's hands go right past Zary's head, and the contact to the face is the stick.
