SF greatly overachieved with SF. SF players would run through a wall for him, and again, the SF executive didn't much like that. As soon. As he left, instantly Kaepernick became below average, Also Smith got into off field issues and the team was cooked.
He had resources though in SF and power for a while. Will Spanos give him the resources? He may give him the power.
Harbaugh himself is a bit of an odd duck and somewhat awkward and stubborn, so that also doesn't play well.
Just like Belichek, GMs and team executives would have to deal with an ego that's bigger their own, and concede some control to they coach.
Makes it tough. Jones really give up control in Dallas? Tennessee's owner had issues with Vrabel and his Patriots induction. Even Seattle has John Schneider (who's been quiet since his partner in crime was told to leave the building)and an owner ('s daughter) who overruled the stability and energy of Pete Carroll.
Back to Harbaugh, he had that control at Michigan and it will be even harder to get the same level he had in SF now 6 years later in the NFL.
