The return for a 32 year old rental never had to be a cornerstone player.
The win was not extending Toffoli full stop.
Then you do your best to maximize your return when you know you're not going to sign him.
Nobody was moving 1st round picks.
He picked up a solid 24-25 year old winger, and a pick.
The negativity around the trade at the time was never warranted. I never expected the guy to out score Toffoli this year but was still happy they moved on from Toffoli and like the return given the market.
