I know... mountains and molehills and all that... but, the one common takeaway from listening to guys like Gretzky, Jordan, Brady, Kobe, Nash, Crosby, etc... is how important the details are when you practice.

Like I remember Nash once talking about how he has to make a certain number of shots in a row before his on-court workouts are done. Like, there's no such thing as missing the net in practice. You're literally practicing what what you want to be able to do in a game... so even if it's really just a skating drill, but part of it is to take a shot... if you miss the net on that shot, you stop the drill and start it over, because missing the net is just unacceptable - no matter the circumstances.

Brady talked about how Gronk had a photshoot the next day, so he called Brady up to go throw the ball around. It was actually a funny story about how Gronk was partying all off season and then the day before a shoot was like, "I'm feeling kinda flabby... I wanna catch some balls to get into shape for tomorrow." So Brady's talking about how the two of them went to the park and Gronk ran routes for like 4 hours in the pouring rain while he threw him the ball... and everyone's laughing, but Brady's like yeah it's a funny story, but that ball never touched the ground once. 4 hours of running routes in the rain and they never dropped the ball once.

The point was... it doesn't matter what you're doing, the fundamentals are always the same. Don't miss the net. Don't drop the ball. Don't miss the basket.

Then when you're in a game, you can worry about some of other things you need to worry about, becuase you just don't miss the net. You don't even know how to. You've never even practiced it.
