I don't think that's a big enough deal to not get maximum value out of the player asset that is Hanifin. Especially since the lottery odds don't change drastically. 6.0% where they are vs 8.5% if they dropped to 5th worst
Keeping the good younger players and drafting well around them is how you prevent it from Being a failed rebuild.
People still complain about the Iginla and Bouwmeester returns but seemingly want to do the same thing "Just trade them for a 1st and a B Prospect"

If the Flames move the 3 UFA’s I suspect the Wild and the Sabres pass them. Outside shot that the Blue Jackets do. The bottom 4 teams seem locked and loaded barring a late season run to mediocrity from the Sens. Barring winning the lottery, picking somewhere between 5th and 8th will garner them a good player. There are a number of good dmen that are projected to go around that spot with a few good forwards. I personally would not mind a dman at that spot given organizational depth. If they get another 1st or two in the trades it would be later in the first round and there are a number of forwards that should be available between 20-32 in the draft.
