Bang on! Let's not forget the classic connection and sign up fee's. I am a 12 year client of Freedom Mobile and if I want to take advantage of any of these deals, it's a $45 fee for what ends up being a privilege to sign a 2 year contract.

Freedom, like a lot of carriers used to give an actual discount on new phones when signing up for contracts. A very healthy discount at that. Now with these tab's, trade up and other financing gimmicks, all you can sometimes get is $150 a year off the hottest phones.

Sure some of the stuff a lot of people don't buy can be had for cheap but the iPhone and top Samsung's have shockingly low device subsidies.

I am still old school and think it's always cheaper in the long run to have your own device and get the best plan possible. You can keep your phone as long as you want and the savings from the plan add up quickly and last for in essences for as long as possible.
