I think it started with the whole soccer mom thing as a turning point where minivans became really uncool. Years back we spent a week in Vancouver and rented a minivan to haul around the family on vacation. Despite the van exceeding our needs and expectations, my wife wanted nothing to do with driving one because of the stigma attached to it.
