Oh and to add my own story from last summer...... I had a severe asthma attack while home alone. I couldn't breathe for a very long period of time (obviously due to the panick state I was in, I can't really can't think of the exact amount of time). It was pretty weird, as I went through a few stages, and remember I wasn't breathing through any of this......
First, I did the old panic thing, ie: flailing around trying to catch a breath, then I went into "okay be calm" mode, which lasted all of two seconds, lol. After that, I went into "if something doesn't change, I'm not going to be alive much longer" mode, which one could argue was just another form of "panic" mode, followed by giving up and accepting it. Then, I got up and tried to give it one more shot, at which point, my legs and arms stopped working and I collpased and "died" for a short period.
Then a few seconds later, a small amount of air started to seep through, which led me to panic and try and take in all the air at once, fortunitly, I was in pretty rough shape, so I just kind of drifted into unconciousness as the air slowly started circulating.
When I went to the hospital, I explained everything that happened, and the doctor said that when you collapse and can't move your arms or legs and can't breathe, you are VERY close (within mere seconds) od dying, which was enough to scare me sh*tless.
....and one more point about the weird experiences while "dead".... I wasn't dead very long, but I definitly had a very "weird" view of my room for a couple of seconds after I collapsed, and I can actually remember it quite well for some reason. It wasn't a big deal, but it was definitly a view from a elevated height, and i definitly wasn't elevated at the time.
