Goalies are getting the running back treatment in hockey.
Less big money contracts, less drafted early. We can debate the value of goaltending, but the league has been trending in this direction for a number of years.
Heck, look at Vegas, Colorado, LA, top teams in the conference who’ve not invested in big name, big money goaltenders, using the cap space to build their roster elsewhere and going cheaper in net.
Maybe the pendulum swings back towards goalies again, but in a cap world where we’ve seen depreciated costs for any assets with a decent cap hit and term, I have my doubts.
