Every goalie lets in bad goals.
The mark of good ones is that bad goals don’t ruin the rest of their night/season/career.
Markstrom is a veteran All-Star calibre goalie who has, with rare exceptions, spent his entire career on middling to awful teams.
Put him on the Devils and he’s an immediate upgrade to a team that’s loaded up front, loaded on D, and has question marks in net.
Goalie is the one position where youth is not preferable because young men haven’t seen enough of the NHL to be counted on when you get down to the final four or eight teams, and young men are notoriously immature.
When every team has multiple guys who can do things a young goalie has never seen, and when every team plays at a speed they’ve never encountered, with the stakes of playoff hockey, you need a adult at that position.
