It seems to be at best a stalemate. If that is the case it can't go on forever. I am assuming that it will end only when Russia is able to save face, and Ukraine gives up some territory, maybe even what Russia has now. Otherwise it will just go on, and without support Ukraine is in trouble. I don't want that to be the outcome at all.
I hate war. Governments fight and citizens are pawns who end up getting hurt and killed. This, along with Israel / Hamas, has to end. Now.

Putin has stated multpile times that the only way they stop the invasion is if Ukraine demilitarizes and stays away from Nato. And then Russia will hold on to the land they have occupied plus probably a little more and just force a pro Russian regime in.
Unless Putin is bluffing, Ukraine can't just give up some Territory.
But you are right its in a stalemate and without continued support and funding Ukraine is F'd.
That being said Russia is feeling pains internally from sanctions and prioritizing funding the war. It just may not matter with Putin in power.
