Lots of good centers, but nothing at that elite two way level to build around.

I'd argue the Flames have never had an elite Center...even Nieuwendyk was amazing but never really one of the top 5 centers of the league.
For sure have never had a generational talent center like a Crosby, Gretzky, Lemieux, etc
And I don't think they've ever had a Center of the next tier either...like an Yzerman, Sakic, Messier, Thornton, Malkin.
I'd say guys like Gilmour and Nieuwendyk probably fall into a tier below that.
They've never had a Center nominated for the Hart trophy, or that finished close to winning the Art Ross, so yeah don't think a truly elite Center has ever really played for the Flames.
