Caverna is my favorite worker placement game out of the 7 or 8 I have tried. Would also recommend Alchemist and Everdell.
The big hits this holiday season for me were agility board games. Flick em up (Dead of Winter) was a blast as a co-op zombie shooter. You flick a little movement puck to move and bullets to shoot zombies while completing scenarios.
We also played a bunch of Dungeon Fighter, another co-op game where you roll dice onto a target as accurately as you can to deal damage. Game makes you add trick shots to your rolls while fighting specific monsters or using your weapons. Some examples would be hot potatoing the dice to a friend before rolling, or throwing it under your leg.
