I don't think the Oilers can possibly hold onto their 1st round pick this year - plus probably a few other futures. After this season, Draisaitl can be extended or he will be traded. Why re-sign with the Oilers who aren't a good team?
The argument is always about the fact that perhaps the Oilers should trade Draisaitl and round out the team better, but then the counter is that teams will have an easier time isolating McDavid.
It's a completely mismanaged mess with no clear-cut argument as to what will help the Oilers win a cup with McDavid.

A HHOF offensive defencemen who was never good in his own zone gets put into a position to teach players how to play defence.
WTF?? It would be like the Flames hiring Jamie Macoun to run the PP. I love Jamie Macoun, and I am sure he could teach players how to play defensive hockey, but he should be nowhere near the PP. How does it make any sense to get someone like Coffey to teach defence to a team that is terrible defensively? Oh, right.. it's the Oilers!
