As for rural people, a plug in hybrid truck will work fine, and this only applies to new vehicles. A brand new vehicle in 2035 will look much, much different than one today. Only 12 years ago the best effective vehicle (Nissan Leaf) had a 97km range and the battery cost the manufacturer about $30,000. Today the same size of car with a battery capable of a 500km range has a battery that costs about $8,000. I'm certain that in 12 years there'll be better options

And I mostly agree with you but this is a terribly handled policy that will be red meat fuel for the Ucp base and push those who are already sceptical of the transition further away.
It is mostly being missed that plug in hybrids count and that is an incredibly important point as the ice is going nowhere anytime soon in places like rural Alberta. I can see the ice becoming very rare in gta or greater Vancouver though but there were different ways to get there.
