It’s just a weird, weasely thing to throw out there based solely on the fact that she’s a woman, which doesn’t just erase any of the merit-based reasons they might have had for hiring her, but also the non-merit ones (she’s an olympic-medal winning hockey player, after all).

Did being a woman help? Probably. Was it the primary reason she got hired over anyone else? Nah, you’d be stupid to think so.
