Make plays… well thanks Paul… I had no idea.
This is something you tell peewee kids when they’re learning from their mistakes and developing… who did he last coach… ahhh.. makes sense.
The NHL is not a developmental league. They all know how to make reads. If they were better at them they wouldn’t be on the NHL recycling pile or trash heap for the Oilers to pick through.
He makes the intelligence of the game seem more like a mindset of committing to playing physical defensive hockey. It reminds me of the cliche
“Any idiot can knock down a barn, but it takes a skilled carpenter to build one.”
Paul is telling idiots to build barns.
This is the same playbook Gretzky used as a coach and why he couldn’t extract more out of bottom players. Wayne would talk about how he always viewed offside as a selfish play… maybe… but sometimes players just don’t have a clue. Lots of tools, just no toolbox.
Then the Grand Poobah of the Oiler Loyal Order Water Carry Buffaloes labels Paul’s insane take on executing hockey sense as psychology.
Keep up the good work David.
