When one veteran player is doing this with other veterans, I can see how it might seem overbearing and not click. Like if Kadri is telling Huberdeau what to do on the ice, how much of that is just going to be ignored. But when you have a rookie or two in the mix, they are probably more likely to follow him.

Could also be that Kadri knew his input would not be welcomed by veterans and therefore clammed up, to his own detriment and the team's.
