They didn’t scout Markstrom for ####s and giggles. I don’t really see how a trade would work without a lot of retention but it isn’t to replace Talbot, it’s to give them insurance in case he goes down or they are worried Talbot doesn’t re-sign and they want stability. Copley isn’t a goaltender you want to be riding into the playoffs with.
