“Goalies are voodoo” has become a meme. But it seems more true today than it was in the past. I don’t think I’m looking through rose-coloured classes when I remember there being far less fluctuation in goalie performance year to year, or in who the top 10 or or so goalies in the league were.
So what changed? Have goalies become so athletic and well-trained that variables like confidence and the play in front them have much more of an impact than they used to?
