At other self checkouts I have to punch in my email afterwards by hand on touchscreen and its super slow and annoying.

Returns are easy either way. And if you have lost your receipt and paid with your credit card, you can make a return as well. They just scan the item and your credit card, and if you actually paid for it, the purchase will show at their end.
