I'll take a serious crack at this...
The hardest part is determining the cost of dumping Campbell - rarely to pure cap dumps have 3 years left, after this one. So it's a big dump, and difficult to put a price on. My first reaction is to say that is worth 2 1sts ($5M for ONE yr is worth a 1st). However, I don't recall any cap dump getting 2 1sts or more. So let's say a 1st and a 2nd.
Next - what is Markstrom worth? Again, difficult, and there would be a very wide range of opinions on this. IMO, he should be valued as a good (but not great) starter. With 2 more years after this one. That is probably a 1st and a good or decent prospect. However, at $6M, he is fully priced, and therefore not worth nearly as much - let's say a 2nd and a mid prospect (or 2nd and a 3rd or 4th)
Then there would be retention. If Campbell uses up $3.8M of space, then the obvious answer is to retain $2M on Markstrom. That is probably worth a 3rd. Or you include Foegele.
Putting that all together, you get:
1st + 2nd
2nd + 3rd
3rd
Substitute Holloway for the 2nd + 3rd, and you get:
Holloway + 1st, 2nd and 3rd
Beyond the 'we need to fleece them' viewpoint, and more importantly, the '#### Edmonton' viewpoint, I think that's a pretty reasonable trade. Edmonton has to think their win-now window is significantly solidified with the addition of Markstrom. And Calgary gets a pretty good rebuild-haul for providing it.
