I've said it before. Corey Perry getting his contract cancelled created $4 million in cap space. That cap space in Chicago allowed Vancouver to unload Beauvillier so they could acquire a defenceman. The Canucks were going to acquire that defenceman right away, because they desperately needed to plug a hole. If the Flames had not traded them Zadorov, they would have found someone else and the opportunity would have been gone.
That's why it needed to happen when it did.
