Here’s another thing that irks me.

A 1st and two seconds usually gets you a high quality player on the off-season. Whether it’s an ELC RFA, or a guy in his mid 20s. That guy almost always signs the extension put in front of him.

If you’re in the right spot in a window, why wouldn’t you do that every year or every other year?

It’s better value than UFA, it’s better use of cap space, on a younger player with either more potential or more good years in front of him for the contract life, and it gets you someone who’s able to step in right away and make an impact.

It’s like the Hamonic trade spooked him.
