This is incredible and if anyone ever doubts where republicans are at on Jan 6 this is the article that pretty much seals it. They are of course releasing the footage for political reasons and it will be misused in so many ways, but they are bold faced in also saying they want to protect people from prosecution.
The quote “ we don’t want them retaliated against by the DOJ” makes it clear they don’t view these people as law breakers but victims of the doj. Stunning from the house speaker.

It's a politically pandering quote, but an arguably defensible action to blur people's faces.
First, the DOJ already
has all the footage that they're going to be releasing, so if there are people in the crowd that the DOJ wants to prosecute, they have what they need to go after them. So, what Jonson is doing is pandering to his base by implying that the GOP can 'protect' people from DOJ retaliation.
Secondly, if these videos are going to be released, then the public will absolutely go through them seeking to identify and dox people in the crowd. You can have your own thoughts about whether you think this is warranted or not, but I kind of lean towards thinking that the Government shouldn't HELP people be doxxed.
So, yeah, idiotic pandering from the living embodiment of the black slime that forms in unwashed bathrooms, and the GOP actually, maybe doing the right thing pretty much by accident?
