Teams in these positions (going for it) don’t subtract from their active rosters to add to them (especially young players). They trade futures - and young active roster players aren’t futures.

And contending teams right up against the cap don’t trade away guys making a difference on the second line at $870k for two more seasons after this for guys who will be making $7 mil+ over those seasons. It would be awful cap management.
