Didn't he say substance abuse and alcohol was a factor? That kind of suggests it was a few isolated incidents, as opposed to an ongoing manipulation type scenario. I'm obviously just speculating though. Lots of abusers fall back on the alcohol excuse. It could also be a scenario where he was making repeated late night calls.
