This is how I see things.
Vancouver has just started their take-off, and are gaining speed down the runway. We will see how much runway is there, and how high they can climb. I personally don't think there is a lot there, but it is always fun for fans to watch their teams compete. And this is how 90% of hockey rebuilds go: teams become increasingly competitive without winning anything while their young star players grow and improve. Only a tiny fraction ever find the secret ingredient of incredibly good fortune and sustained health over the course of a season to win it all.
I thought the Flames played a decent game—not great, not terrible—but definitely good enough to win against this Canucks team that looks like they will be on the bubble for the rest of the year. It was still a pretty fun game.
