It might be different nowadays, but for the longest time the start of a defenseman's prime was considered 26-27.
Forwards a couple years earlier (although now with kids being much more NHL ready it's closer to 23 for forwards).
For top 4 type d-men, 27-32 is that period of time when they're at their peak performance. With how much they have to learn and fine tune, it makes sense.
Hanifin started pretty early and has a lot of miles already, comparatively speaking. So not sure how that'll affect his peak relative to age.
