Did Calgary offer Tkachuk 8x$10.5? Because if I know anything about the Tkachuk family, they like money.

Chucky HATED the 56 game season and I think it played a huge role in him moving on. He was stuck in Canada with more restrictions than in the States, he was 23 and for the first time this fan base somewhat started to turn on him. It wasn’t until late in the year when the Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk line was formed did he start to produce. I remember at garbage bag day that year he was asked if they were going to talk extension that summer and he said no very swiftly.
There was the orange Julius rumor he may have signed for 8-8.5 for 8 years after his second season but that was never proven. Someone made the comment Edward’s balked at the deal because Chucky had 2 years of 48 and 49 pts. He would go on to score 77 the next year and thanks to Dubas any 8 year deal would need to be over $10M to make sense. They couldn’t get the 6 year deal figured out and Treliving gave him his get out of Calgary free card with the 3 year bridge with high QO
