I'm sure the team is stoked about his 7 points in 23 games, and I'm sure he's stoked about averaging 13:00 minutes a night.
His underlying stats are great, but Beauvillier's were pretty good too and he was just traded for a 5th round pick. (Beauvillier also happened to have more points and was playing a higher TOI per game than Garland, so at the very least the coach thought he was just as big a part of that bottom 6).
I feel like if they got offered even a 3rd round pick for him he'd be gone, problem is teams likely want a sweetener back to take him with the 2 extra years on his deal.
All parties realized this was the only path forward for them, not some sudden change of heart because they all suddenly became happy with one another.
(And I say this as somebody who would easily take Garland for a 3rd if I had the cap space, even with 2 years left. I think he would actually work well with Huberdeau.)
