Look at the teams in the playoff race and their LTIR usage / cap space accrual.

Teams that aren't accruing space:

Toronto: Have $3.1M space now but dependent on injuries to Gio / Klingberg
Colorado: $4.95M LTIR space...maybe some more room with Girard in player assistance program.
Tampa Bay: no space
Vegas: no space
Washington: $7.2M of LTIR space - could be looking for a center if Backstrom's career is over.
LA: $2.6 of space on LTIR - but depends if Arvidsson returns
Vancouver: $5.7M of LTIR space right now not sure how that all works post Beauvillier trade with Suter, Soucy, Poolman, on IR
Rangers: $16M of LTIR space right now but Fox/Chytil will be back, Kakko probably done for year
Bruins: no space

So those teams are already in LTIR and capped out. They probably can't make a move until the deadline and it's still going to take some work to make people fit.

Of this group Vancouver and Toronto are the desperate ones right now because cap space unexpectedly opened up, and they are in need of dmen due to injuries...but also if you're Conroy you're right to try to make them overpay you hold all the cards.

Especially because as the season passes these other teams will have more space to do things due to cap accural...

Teams Accruing Cap:

St.Louis: $1.3M Deadline Cap Space
Dallas: $2.0M Deadline Cap Space
New Jersey: $4.5M Deadline Cap Space
Florida: $5.6M Deadline Cap Space
Seattle: $6.5M Deadline Cap Space
Winnipeg: $7.0M Deadline Cap Space
Carolina: $8.0M Deadline Cap Space (To me this is probably the Lindholm destination)
Arizona: $15.4M Deadline Cap Space
Detroit: $19.3M Deadline Cap Space (Probably team to look at for Hanifin/Lindholm if Kane signals them trying to push)
Buffalo: $32M Deadline Cap Space

Not all of those teams are likely to be buyers at the deadline, but you never know if a team like Buffalo continues to climb up the standings and decides to take a stab. Detroit seems to have sold Kane on their vision, maybe they make a push too.

So if I'm the Flames I'm not really looking at taking Vancouver's offer right now unless it's a crazy overpayment...because you hold the cards right now and they are the ones in a position where maybe getting a bit more desperate.
Awesome breakdown 👍🏻
For whatever reason I’ve always pictured Detroit as the Hanifin destination…
