I had a gear grinder about shots a few years ago.

I went to a party and my buddy asked for their strongest shots, sight unseen, surprise me... I don't know what he said. We got Lagavulin in the shot glasses. I was the first to sip the shot and in disbelief and annoyance said, "This is Lagavulin!" half the group bailed on the shot from that point on because they hate smokey/peaty scotches. One sniff and most agreed that even if I was wrong on what it actually was, it wasn't what they wanted to consume.

Another buddy sipped and argued with me it was tequila until the waitress confirmed it was Lagavulin. I poured the remaining shots into a glass everyone else bailed on and sipped it for the rest of the evening. No one else wanted to touch it. They ripped my buddy off and tried to get people to have Lagavulin as shots. Like $240 on 8 Lagavulin shots or whatever. He could afford it and he didn't care... but it really bothered me. I'm not against spending a little extra to try something nice. But Lagavulin as shots? That's not only disrespectful to the spirit IMO, that's greasy bull#### to pull on someone who is obviously drunk.

It felt a little like a reverse of the Nick Offerman "It's not Lagavulin skit":

Thinking about that still makes my blood boil.
