If it is true, the Hawks could have at least handled it in a more discreet way as to not put Bedard under the spotlight. Bedard is the biggest asset and player investment they have. If it has nothing to do with Bedard, then they should say what the reason is to save Bedard the embarrassment. If it does having something to do with Bedard, then they should have been more careful about doing something that would just increase speculation, like maybe trading Perry while retaining salary. They could have framed it as Perry deciding to chase another Cup. People might still speculate, but not as much as it would at least seem plausible.
