Not to mention it's much riskier to have all you offense driven through two players. What if one of them missed a couple months. I think the Flames are much more resistant to injuries given nobody over contributes to any aspects of the game. Not to say the Flames don't have key players, but the Oilers take it to an entirely different level.
For example, the Flames are missing a 3/4 damn in Kylington. Could the Oilers make due if they lost one of their top here dmen for a season? As much as we make fun of their defense, the replacements they have to come in are much worse.

Edmonton has no depth but has two elite forwards. Calgary has no elite offensive players but has depth. Both teams are deficient. As you say, lack of depth has its risks but not having someone you can count on to score a goal when absolutely needed also carries its own risk.
