They simply do not understand what depth is. Or the consequences of playing 2 guys all the time - the rest of the team has no chance to contribute, and checks out.
They don't seem to understand hockey is a team game. To them there is one team of McDraisaitl responsible only for scoring goals and another team leftovers who are responsible only for preventing goals. From time to time a player can briefly join the goal scoring team, but it's never permanent. All wins are because of the McDavid team and all losses are the fault of he leftovers. Who the hell would be motivated on the leftover team.

Not to mention it's much riskier to have all you offense driven through two players. What if one of them missed a couple months. I think the Flames are much more resistant to injuries given nobody over contributes to any aspects of the game. Not to say the Flames don't have key players, but the Oilers take it to an entirely different level.

For example, the Flames are missing a 3/4 damn in Kylington. Could the Oilers make due if they lost one of their top here dmen for a season? As much as we make fun of their defense, the replacements they have to come in are much worse.
