If I were McDavid and I only cared about money, I'd ask for successive 1-year max deals and the moment you think they might say no, an 8-year max retirement contract. Weaponize the constant cap increases instead of settling.
Gretzky had 58.4% of his career points by the end of his age-27 season, the same season McDavid is in now.
