It can work in WWE for a couple reasons.
1) My guess is he's going to have more of a part time deal, less of the time in the locker room week to week less time to rub people the wrong way.
2) WWE seems to be less clicky in the locker room. AEW had ex-wwe guys, the elite guys, and then the younger AEW originals and it didn't (and still doesn't) feel like those groups always got along. Punk was able to latch onto that to start his own group in his fued against the Elite and Colt Cabana's buddies, that won't happen in AEW. I'm sure some guys like Kevin Owens that are buddies with the Young Bucks will have issues, but they probably won't work much together anyways.
3) HHH is infinitely better at managing a locker room than Tony Kahn is, and that's not even mentioning the group of professionals they will have that deal with this at TKO. Not like UFC doesn't have a lot of egos that literally want to hurt each other all the time too.
I had almost forgotten but it's actually not Punk's first time on WWE programming in 10 years, he was on that Fox show too. The networks that WWE work with clearly like having the CM Punk pop.
