I don't know if the Flames will rebuild, but if they do, I hope they can keep Kadri around for it. I understand that at this point in his career, he would likely prefer to chase another Cup somewhere, but I think he has been really good for the young players. It's paramount to a rebuilding team to have veterans who can also help teach.
Wes Gilbertson had a good write-up about it:
Quote:
When these guys get back to the bench after a shift, No. 91 typically does most of the talking. Flames coach Ryan Huska has repeatedly praised Kadri, a Stanley Cup champion with the Colorado Avalanche in 2021, for embracing this mentorship role.
“It’s been great playing with him and just learning from him,” Zary said. “It’s almost always in a positive, constructive way, even if it’s something negative, like a mistake or anything like that. He kind of transforms it into a positive — ‘Hey, you did this but maybe if you tried this, maybe that would be better for you.’ So it’s not like he’s just coming at you.
“If you do something that could be done differently, it’s a lot better to hear it in a way that is like, ‘Hey, next time, I think you could try this’ instead of just ‘Hey, you screwed up.’ So it’s been great this first few weeks.”
