I don't see this as a steal, I see it as a good trade that just makes sense. The Devils got a veteran player to fit in their offense, the Flames got a roster player with possible upside and a mid round pick for a scouting staff that makes great mid round picks.
The level of hate a few people have given the trade is so weird to me. Toffoli was never going to be worth a 1st at his age imo. Sure, he got a lot of points, but that could dry up very quickly in the next couple years.
If those are the trades we can expect Conroy to pursue, sign me up! It might not be a blockbuster, but it's how you build a team. I have a feeling the same people who hated the trade would also be mad if the Flames gave up a younger player and a pick for an old guy!
