The only thing that might save the Oilers is that the 95 point barrier might not be the win mark to make the playoffs. Seattle in the last wildcard spot is on a 78 point pace. St Louis is about 82 points. Now they're not going to catch LA who's on a ridiculous I think 123 point pace.

So the Oiler's only hope is the wildcard. But here's the ouch factor on that. There are 5 teams between the Oilers and the wildcard teams. And 3 of these teams have opened up their lead on the Oilers in the last 10.

Their next 3 games are against the Ducks, Vegas and the Jets. Its not out of the wild realm of expectation that the Oilers drop all three after taking off the pressure with their big win against Washington. But a 1-2 run is not out of the question, and that's hugely devastating.

The Oilers aren't just chasing those wildcard teams, but they're competing against 5 other teams chasing those wildcard teams.


And I doubt that the Wildcard teams are going to continue to be this cold.
